Amid climate of fear, Rockland advocacy group hosts immigration forum

SPRING VALLEY – A countywide Haitian community services organization is hosting an immigration forum on Wednesday night to educate people on the laws, citizenship and deportation issues.

The forum has been scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in Konbit Neg Lakay’s community room at 16 E. Church St., off Route 45 (Main Street) in the village.

The hour-long meeting will feature attorney Emmanuel Coffy discussing the laws and providing insight into citizenship and other issues, such as political asylum, deportation, adoption, and labor certification.

Konbit Neg Lakay employees and volunteers will be available afterward to discuss issues one-on-one with people who have questions and issues, said Renold Julien, executive director and founder of the social action community services organization.
